Ghost Dog lebt über der Welt, zusammen mit einem Schwarm Vögel, in einer selbstgebauten Hütte auf dem Dach eines verlassenen Gebäudes. Geleitet von den Worten eines alten Samurai-Textes, ist Ghost Dog ein professioneller Killer, der sich in der Nacht auflösen und unbemerkt durch die Stadt bewegen kann. Als Ghost Dogs Kodex von der dysfunktionalen Mafia-Familie, bei der er gelegentlich angestellt ist, auf gefährliche Weise verraten wird, reagiert er streng nach dem Weg des Samurai. In Ghost Dogs Worten: „Wir sind wie zwei uralte Stämme, beide fast ausgestorben… und alles scheint sich um uns herum zu verändern“.
